WHAT IS SEED?

SEED is a brand new science fiction series unlike anything you have ever seen before. It has the mystery and intrigue of Lost combined with the political commentary and sci-fi appeal of shows like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica mixed with the paranormal/alien themes explored in The X-Files. But what makes SEED so different is the nature of its subject matter.

A recent Barna Group survey stated that the top three most influential factors in our culture were Movies, Television and the Internet. The Church wasn't even in the top ten. This is clearly visible in our society today. Nothing impacts our culture more than media, the arts and entertainment. Therefore, the question we need to be asking is, "Who is behind mainstream media, how are they influencing society and what messages are they trying to impact us with?"

The Unplug the Signal Campaign says, "The television has been used as a weapon of mass deception for the last half of a century as it manages society and culture through such techniques as perception management, predictive programming, and crisis creation."

In reality, someone is always “preaching” to the masses and that is having an impact on our society. But people don't watch dramatic, episodic television to be "preached to" (in an ecclesiastical sense), they watch to be entertained. Thus, SEED will not be any more “evangelical” than Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Stargate, Fringe, Jeremiah, The 4400, Flash Forward or Millennium – all of which explored similar themes and ideas in one form or another.

However, because so much of the SEED research is grounded in Scripture, people of all faiths can find common ground and/or areas for debate – while at the same time find another way of looking at the world around us that is apart from the usual explanation of shows like the History Channel's “Ancient Aliens” series. As they watch SEED, they will be exposed to “seeds” that have been planted in their minds, which will cause them to seek out truth for themselves. Thus, SEED will be much more than just a cool series to watch, it will become an “experience” - possibly with eternal impact.

We have a projected budget of $1 million per episode. These days, that is less than most mainstream TV shows in this genre. But the series will be shot in Texas to take advantage of state incentives and to avoid the high costs of shooting in Los Angeles. In this way, we hope to achieve the same high quality production values, but at a fraction of the usual Hollywood budget.

The typical route for most episodic television is to get financed through a studio or a network (like NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, etc.). But it is true that the borrower is always slave to the lender. If we go that route, the studios can censor us, control our content and cancel us if they feel they aren't getting the "ratings" they need to justify the expense. With a series like SEED, that involves too many risks - both for you the viewer as well as for us as the creators of the series.

We have an outline for 72 powerful episodes that we believe must be told. Therefore, we are putting the "control" in the hands of the audience.
